Morning all,
Whilst my work PC updated this morning, I began reading through an article on Bell of Lost Souls discussing Competition scoring and trying to balance this in favour of closer, more enjoyable games, as opposed to being completely crushed while someone goes for that 32-Nil massacre result.
You can find the article here: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2010/12/guest-editorial-why-battlepoints-are.html and I'd suggest having a read through the comments and see what people think. There's some good arguments for and against each method.
So what I want to think about here is what scoring system should we be using for the Warlord competition in the New Year...
The previous years, we've used the 32-Nil scoring system and had close games alongside crushing victories, getting tabled etc. etc. Is this something worth continuing, especially when we take into account the number of players at the club and how previous years have gone in regards to points.
What I would suggest in future would be the following, similar to Football League scoring:
Win = 3 points
Draw = 1 point
Loss = 0 points
In the event of a tie for any positions, these will be resolved with a Play Off game at that time between the 2 players tied for that spot. In the event that this is then a tie, we can either have a fight in the car park or continue playing into sudden death turns, where any Turn that the objectives are drawn, we continue until a clear winner has been decided upon.
This system cuts down on book keeping, gives clear wins to those who play to the mission and resolves ties in a better way than Kill Point / Victory Point difference. It should also mean that games are closer and more fun than removing your army piece by piece until Turn 4 when your last unit of Grots is pulled off the board and you face a tabling.
What do you guy think about it, and which scoring systems do you prefer when playing in events?
Peace,
SB

MAWS Warlord 40,000 - 2010 Results
Morning all,
It's been a long time coming, but I've finally managed to dish out the trophies to everyone and take the necessary pictures.
For those reading the blog who are unaware, Warlord 40,000 is an annual mini-league that we run in after Christmas, before our club AGM. It's basically a 4+ game tournament split over the space of a couple of weeks, using the 32-Nil scoring system, along with a couple of missions done by me.
So here goes... *drum roll* the Manchester Area Wargames Society Warlord 2010 winners.
All in all, it was a decent competition as always. We allowed the new Tyranid codex to be used, we'd had a 2 week grace period for it and only came across a few issues which were Rules Pack FAQ'ed as a get by. The Blood Angels codex showed up half way through, but we carried on with 4th ed rules for that point.
I went for a pretty weird Ork army, compared to what I usually use (Tankbustas, Lootas and Trukk Boyz) mostly down to coming up with a list at the last minute during pretty busy period at work. Also... it meant I could transport my army in 1 box...
I'm intending for my Brotherhood of the Forge to be completed for next year's Warlord, so maybe with that motivation there, it'll keep me going for a Paintlog style setup.
Here's looking forward to next year, with some new armies for everyone!

[Warlord] Warlord 2010 Begins!
To those who are unaware, Warlord 40,000 is an annual league run over the space of 6 or 7 games between the 40k players of MAWS competing for the Warlord trophy.
It's now in it's third year and it's 2nd with 40k 5th Edition, which is troublesome when it comes to creating a ruleset of 6 or 7 different scenarios as there's only 3 in the rulebook.
So this year it's been tweaked and updated and you can find an online version of the rulespack here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/25488812/Warlord-2010 which can be downloaded and printed.
The link above is for players taking part in the tournament, but if you guys aren't MAWS players, then feel free to let us know what you think about the rules pack.
For those of us that are taking part, there's links on the top left of the document to download the file in a variety of different formats and print if off either from the online document, or through it's respective program.
To all those involved, enjoy!
