Badger's Log - Squat Seraphim Completed
Productive week for me. After finishing off my Squat infantry, I rolled straight onto getting the remaining units left in the army completed. The first was the Seraphim, who weren't included in the original Infantry lot, as they weren't sprayed up at the time.
I wasn't too sure on what colour to have the Jump Packs from these guys, so I went with Grey matching the clothing and vehicles of the army. The squad is 10 strong and has a Sergeant (can't remember the actual name) and a model with Hand Flamers.
This is the squad leader, armed with his jump pack, pistol and Eviscerator. Not entirely sure the pistol / eviscerator combo is allowed, but the main point is he's armed with an Eviscerator for a bit of combat punch and incase they got stuck with a Walker.
And this is my Squat equivalent of the Living Saint. I wanted him to stand out, so I got some Mechanical wings off eBay which look really cool. Would have been nice if they did some smaller ones and I would have done the full squad in that way.
So... just the Immolator to go now and the Squats are finished. Then, onto my Eldar!

Badger's Log - Squat Infantry Completed!
Over the last 2 weeks I've been in full painting flow (mostly as stress relief to a busy period of work), to try and shift some of my backlog and to get out of the hobby lothargy I was in.
It took me a while to finally get a clear day, where I was off work and had time to spray them up - but I managed to get the Squats sprayed up in that time.
Backlog for these guys now stands at:
- 5 Dominions
- 6 Crusader Henchmen
- 20 Sisters of Battle
- 5 Command Squad Celestians
- 10 Seraphim
- 1 Saint Celestine
- 1 Immolator
Now, onto some piccies!:
Group shot of all the remaining Squat infantry. Here we've got 20 Warriors, a 5 man Celestian command squad, Arch Confessor Kyrinov, 6 Crusaders and 5 Dominions. Took the pic while the black wash was settling, so the bases aren't finished here...
Celestian Command Squad:
These guys have Green cloaks to separate them from my other cloaked squads (standard Celestians have Black, Retributors have Blue). The way I see it is, the more experienced they are is dictated by the colour of their cloak. Bog standard Celestians have no colour, then their cloak is coloured when they specialise.
This is my Apothecary, which is the real reason I wanted to make the command squad. Feel No Pain is always good, and I liked the idea of a Dwarf Apothecary. What's the best pain relief for Dwarves? Ale of course!! So he's heartily drinking a mug of it and lugging around a barrel of it for his chums.
Last unique one is this fella with the Loud Hailer (if that's what it's still called), with his trumpet from the Dwarf Miners kit. Originally I was going to give them a drum, but I thought the trumpet looked better on the figure.
Arch Confessor Kyrinov:
This is one of the special characters I fancied making, just so I've got pretty much every unit in the codex now. For his iconic items, he is the only model in the army to carry a Hammer (his Mace of Valaan) and his Miner's light counts as the Icon he carries (I think it's the Icon of Quenelles, but I'm probably wrong). He's got a cream cloak, so that he should be really easy to spot on the battlefield amongst the others.
Squat Dominions:
Everyone swears by Dominions, and I figured they would be my dedicated anti-tank unit, combined with an Immolator. So I converted these guys up to have 2 Meltas. Also, being a scout unit, I thought that they would carry a much smaller version of an Imagifier, as opposed to a big hefty banner the other units carry.
The Dominions are painted with Red capes to distinguish them. I figured since they're scouts, they're normally fastest to the fight... and we all know that Red ones go faster!
Squat Crusaders:
When the changes were made so that Death Cult assassins were now part of a Battle Conclave unit, I fancied rounding my 3 man unit of Death Cults up to a 10 man mixed unit. So I made these 6 Crusaders with Power Weapons (not sure if they're named "power swords" in the army list). I tried to bulk these guys up with some shoulder armour too, since they'd need to be well equipped for close combat.
Squat Warrior Squads:
These guys are more of the same. 10 man squads, Imagifier, Sergeant with power axe, Melta, Flamer. I've decided to name all my squads after Dwarves from Lord of the Rings, starting with Thorin's company from The Hobbit. I just need to work out a way of distinguishing them on the tabletop.
Squat Seraphim:
Rolling straight on while I'm in painting mode, I started touching up the areas where the spray had missed on these guys.
Then when I couldn't get back to sleep this morning, I figured I'd crack on with the Seraphim and drybrushed the metal areas. So well on the way to getting this army complete now. Just these fellas and the Immolator to go!

Badger's Log - Dark Angels Complete
I had a fairly productive week last week, with a push to try and get my remaining Dark Angels bits completed. The plan was to get them finished before Christmas, so that I could make a start on other projects (build Dwarfs, paint strip some Dark Eldar, etc.) that have been backlogged.
So yeah, last thing for my Dark Angels was 20 tactical marines, along with a Captain - all from the Black Reach boxset.
Rather than do a tester model like I had with other armies, I'd already painted a Drop Pod and was happy with that scheme so I (somewhat foolishly) ploughed on and made a start on all 21 models. I stuck to the colour scheme from the codex, but went for a bit of a lighter green.
After it's all done, I kinda wished I'd used a darker green as the Badab Black didn't darken it as much as I had liked, but overall I'm pretty happy.
I used Red as the secondary colour for the shoulder pad trims, rather than cream as I wanted that colour to stand out on the robes and Aquilas.
Lastly, here's my Captain who I plan on using as Azrael. I just need to make myself a little Lion Helm bearer from a Chaos Marine Lord familiar.
So yeah, quite happy with him, although the Red on the cloak and the trims was a bit too much.
That's it for my Dark Angels for now!

Badger's Log - Drop Pods and Ravenwing Bikes
Over the last week or so I've been trying to make a push on my Dark Angels stuff, freeing up my December to be spent Christmas shopping, doing odd jobs around the house and able to buy and paint some Dark Eldar or Necrons.
In the mean time however, I've managed to get 2/3 of my Dark Angels backlog complete this week. Firstly, the last of the Ravenwing (for now) - 6 Ravenwing Bikers.
You can't really see in the picture, but I tried to start outfitting my units with as much plasma as possible. So the Biker squad has 2 plasma gunners, along with a Sergeant (guy with actual Ravenwing bike banner).
When I start to paint Black armoured models, I always think it'll be super fast because it's the same colour as the undercoat. Then I realise it's more or less the same amount of work because I have to repaint all the armour after I've drybrushed or done other areas!
Either way, these guys were pretty quick. I think there's 4 colours (Black, Boltgun, Red, Dheneb Stone) but with the Ravenwing stuff, I didn't want to take too much time.
Then over the weekend I made a start on my 2 Drop Pods, since I realised I had 2 Dreads painted, but nothing to get them close in Multi-Melta firing range.
I wasn't sure whether the Dark Angels drop pods for Venerable Dreads would be Deathwing bone coloured or normal green. So in the end I went for the green choice, since I figured they could double up for transporting a Tactical squad if needs be.
After this, I've got 20 Tactical Marines and a Commander left to paint. The Commander I'm planning on using as Azrael since the model looks a bit like him, I just need to make myself a Watcher to tag along with him.
As for going forward, completely wishlisting, I would like to replace the flamers and missile launchers in my Tac squads with a Plasma Gun and Plasma Cannon and also have a 4 man Plasma Cannon devastator squad.
However with things the way they are, money low and various other more shiney temptations, that probably won't happen any time soon.
So yeah, not long to go for the Dark Angels. The tactical squad progress has been halted momentarily because I've run out of Chaos Black paint, but once that's sorted I'll crack on with them.
Cheers,
SB

Badger's Log - Ravenwing Land Speeders
After finishing off my Dreadnaughts last week, I decided I'd make a start on some of the more mobile parts of my Dark Angels army with the Ravenwing. I also thought these would be pretty quick to paint, being mostly black plating.
So I started off with the 2 Land Speeders I had, both armed with Typhoon Missile Launcher and Multi-Melta to try and give me some sort of (semi) reliable anti-tank fire.
So yeah, there you are. 3 colours make up the majority of it all, Black, Boltgun Metal and Mechrite Red, with a few splashes of Dheneb Stone, Knarloc Green and Tallarn Flesh dotted around.
I think all in all, it took me about 2 hours to paint and base both of them, which is pretty good going I reckon - and it bodes well for my Biker squad who are due on the paint table next.

Badger's Log - Venerable Dreads
Last night I finished off 2 Venerable Dreads for my Deathwing army. They're the standard AOBR Dreadnaught models, painted in a Deathwing colour scheme, to indicate their venerable status. I'm not too knowledgeable on the current Marine codex, but in the Dark Angels book it's just a points upgrade to make them Venerable, so I figured it's worth spending the points.
The thing I enjoyed most about these models was the speed at which I could get them painted. I drybrushed everything with Boltgun Metal, then went over the armour with Dheneb Stone. Lastly I touched up some detailing with Red and Green and then used Tin Bitz to colour the Melta gun barrel.
So yeah, quick to paint and hopefully extremely useful in my army (the only things that have a Melta gun!) next I need to make a start on my Drop Pods for these guys to use.
Next on the paint desk however are 2 Land Speeder Typhoon's ready to go. I'm hoping that since the majority of the Ravenwing is black, they'll also be pretty quick to paint and can add some more Missile shots from those in a support role.
Cheers,
SB

Badger's Log - Deathwing Completed
I planned to do this blog yesterday but was pretty busy all day. I had quite a productive hobby weekend (and last week) for my Deathwing army.
Across the week I did the armour on the 25 Terminators, which I had been moaning about for a while, and then on Friday, did most of the detail work on the gun barrels and insignia etc. Then across Saturday I washed and based them.
Then I remembered that it couldn't really be an army, as I had no HQ units. So Saturday night I undercoated Belial, my Chaplain and Librarian conversions and then over Sunday got them painted up.
Then, while I was on a roll, I decided that I would do all the bone coloured armour at the same time as everything else. So I dragged out my 2 Venerable Dreads. They're just normal AoBR Dreadnaughts, but they'll be painted in bone armour, to "Indicate they're serving with the Deathwing" as per the Codex description.
So here's an in progress shot:
I've got the second one up to the metal stage, but haven't started on the bone armour yet. They're pretty quick going, I reckon once I've painted the bone armour on the other, it's just a few red and green details and a wash, then they're good to go.
That's all for now, but when the Dreads are completed I'll be doing a vote on here on what I should paint next, so keep a look out for that!
Cheers,
SB

Badger's Log - Deathwing Progress
It's been a bit since I posted on here, and to be fair, it's been a slow few hobby weeks for me. I've been tracking the Necron rumours online and was planning on doing a post compiling them all and posting my thoughts, but I've not had chance to do a big write-up and it'd probably just end up being a few hundred Ctrl+V's of "I AM DISSAPOINT".
So, in other news, I made some serious headway with my Deathwing army over last week, chipping away at the bone armour on the 25 Terminators, a few at a time each night.
Now I'm trying to find the time to get the red and green detailing done, so I can add some extra detail to the command squad (Apothecary and Banner bearer mostly) and then finish them all off to make a start on the characters.
So yeah, that's where things are going. I'm hoping to get the Deathwing finished over this weekend whilst catching up on some TV and then get the characters done over next week. Then hopefully I can get some more of the Dark Angel army progressing.
The hope is that I can have all the Dark Angels bits painted up before the end of December, then have some progress done on assembling the Dwarf boxes I have piled up. Which should be fun during the Winter months.
That's all for now folks, I'll do another when the Deathwing Termis are finished or when I summon enough energy to write a new Necron codex thoughts.
Cheers,

Badger's Log - Daemon Prince and Bloodcrushers
Another productive weekend for me and my Khorne Daemon army. I started Saturday morning with 2 Bloodcrushers, a Herald on a Juggernaut and a Daemon Prince all sat in grey plastic. Lucky for me, Saturday morning was clear of rain and I managed to get them sprayed up before lunchtime.
I then spent the evening painting the models up, with the hope to get them all finished ready for gaming on Monday night. Thankfully, my Daemons take next to no time compared to my Deathwing and before I went to bed, I had all of them done with the Black wash drying.
Sunday morning I got the bases done and that was the end of that chapter! They're quick and dirty again, but they're painted and that's all that matters to me at the moment with the Deathwing I need to finish off, Brotherhood of the Forge to do and (from reading the rumours over the weekend) planning for tons of Necrons to do.
So here's the pics:
Apologies for the pics being a bit rubbish, it was bad lighting when I took them and the flash on my phone is utter rubbish.

Badger's Log - Hitting the Hobby Wall
Recently I've been finding hobbying a little difficult whilst at home. Last weekend I managed to finish painting up 3 Bloodcrushers and a Deathwing test model in pretty good time.
Spirits were high and I felt like I had the painting bug once again, that I wanted to finish all the half-started projects I had around. First up, were the rest of the Deathwing army.
At first it was pretty good going, they were already sprayed up, so on Saturday night I went over the undercoat to cover any gaps and get a proper solid coat. Then Sunday night, I drybrushed any Metal areas.
I got pretty confident, I thought to myself "It's only 25 models. I can get these done in a couple of nights or so at this rate..." and now, nearly 4 days later, all I've managed to do is paint about 3/4 of the bone armour on 1 terminator.
I feel like I've hit the wall...
When I get home, I don't feel like picking up the brushes to tackle the Terminators anymore, I've got no motivation to assemble and convert my Dwarfs into 40k models and I've yet to have a night where I've got home from work, in daylight and it not be raining, in order to spray my remaining Daemon models.
I'm in a hobbying lull at the moment where things don't seem to be going my way with painting especially. Personally, I like to go for quick paint jobs that get models on the table faster and I thought with Deathwing, that was pretty achievable. I underestimated how long the Bone armour colour takes to get on in a solid and even coating, which is what's consuming the vast majority of time.
Then we get onto assembling my Dwarfs, where I look at the stack of boxes and think to myself "I really can't be bothered hacking away at arms to make them have Bolters..." or other such excuses. I do want to get them done, so I can try out the Sisters of Battle WD codex for myself, but looking at the boxes and thinking how much assembly work there is to do, I'd rather suffer through painting Deathwing.
And lastly, the weather in Manchester over the last week has been absolutely shocking. Any time that I've been home and able to spray, it's been raining or vice-versa, anytime it's been dry enough to spray I've been away from home. I suppose the weather being rubbish helps in the fact that I'll stay in more and get painting done (or at least attempt to...).
So yeah, that's where I am at the moment - I thought I'd try and vent on here and also, ask for advice.
What do you guys do to try and get around "Hobby Block" ?
Cheers,
SB

Badger's Log - Bloodcrushers
Quick one from me again this morning, just to post my progress with goings on. Myself and Sanguinius are going to a doubles tournament in November and decided to take Daemons. So I'm having to upgrade my old count-as Bloodcrushers to the actual models now they're plastic.
I ordered and assembled them a while ago, but I only got round to painting them last week after I got some new paints.
I gave the Juggernauts black armour rather than red to give a bit of diversity with the model, rather than a big mass of red broken up by boltgun metal.
So far I've got 3, 1 of which has an Instrument, but I'm looking to add another set to make a bigger unit which can absorb more fire.
Peace,
SB

Badger's Log: Deathwing Test Model
It's been a while since I got my paints out, between end of project overtime at work and various family goings on, I've not done much hobbywise, save assemble some Bloodcrushers and play some practice games for a doubles tournament in November.
But at the weekend, I got a few things done - painted 3 Bloodcrushers, assembled a Daemon Prince and then bought a fair few new paints as I'd run low on most.
As a non-Daemon treat I decided that it was about time I got myself into gear with my Deathwing army, so I figured I would paint a tester model to try out the scheme.
I'm really, really pleased with how it looks. Even more so with how the picture has some out on my new phone's camera.
The only problem I had was the sheer amount of time it took to get a good solid coat of Dheneb Stone on the armour. My concern is that I won't be able to breeze through these as quick as I normally would with an army.
I think overall, it took me about 1 hour 30 to get the model done, sticking to a basic colour palette of Dheneb Stone, Mechrite Red, Boltgun Metal and Knarloc Green. Then for assorted piping and the eyes I used Ice Blue and Camo Green. Top it all off with a Badger-Trademarked Badab Black wash and I'm really pleased.
I also had to be very, very careful with the application of the black wash this time. On other armies, I've just slopped it on and for all those it looks fine, but the Deathwing army needed to look battle worn and aged, rather than flat out dirty or patchy.
Make a start on the rest pretty soon I hope. I suppose the time it takes to paint them isn't too problematic as there's only 25 models in the entire army!
Peace,
SB

Road to Warrington - The way home!
To begin with I got everything painted to the minimum three colours and based, all that I have remaining is the lightning detail. I also plan to do a bit of freehand painting some Skulls and squad Icons on the back of the Rhino's to distinguish each squad.

My tournament didn't go quite as planned, I was expecting to lose the majority of games, as I am only an average player, and I was taking a "sub-optimal" Chaos Marines list. In my first game, I got really unlucky as was drawn against a "leafblower" list with the Spearhead deployment. It ended up with me being completely wiped out, I didn't even manage a single Victory Point, let alone a Kill Point. So that put me at the bottom, with a 20-0 loss and -1750 Kill points.
My Dreadnought (best painted model so far) and a glimpse of my Terminators and Possessed
So, in my second game I thought, this should be closer, and a more fun game, but boy I was wrong, I faced an almost Identical list, but with one less Vendetta and two less Hydra's. This time it was Dawn of War, and I thought I stood a chance, all I needed was for my Missile Launcher to hit a few times and it looked good with the first shot blowing up one Vendetta. But he then shot his remaining shots at my Vindicators blowing them both up through their smoke. This left me struggling and although I managed to get around 500 kill points, it ended up with a 20-0 loss again!!!
Third game, should have been easy then, I was still on zero points, and I got drawn against a Blood Angels, jump pack list. Great! I have two Vindicators that love to munch Marines, unfortunatly those two Vindicators missed four times over two turns, the Missile Launcher couldn't hit the Storm Raven (so far he had hit two things in three games). The game should have ended in a draw, but due to some miss-information, I gave the game away for a 14-6 loss. My opponent was gracious and offered a draw, but I didn't mind as I had enjoyed the game, and let him keep his win.
My Chaos Lord with Daemon weapon, being followed by his possessed retinue. So, in my fourth game, I was put against a Space Wolf player from Aus, this guy had missed the first day due to illness. He had four Thunderwolves, and a Lord on a Thunderwolf, along with 15 Missile Launchers. I managed to kill his Thunderwolves (first time I had fought them) due to some bad rolling on my opponents behalf, It ended 15-5 loss because I couldn't get rid of the last couple of men in each squad.
Fifth game I got put against a judge as my opponent hadn't shown up, he had Daemons and I thought it would be an easy game, but this guy could Roll 5+'s like his life depended on it. I just couldn't compete with his good rolling and ended up getting flattened, though my Possessed and Lord killed 17 and a half Fiends of Slaanesh. So I was quite happy, so once again that's a 20-0 loss.
My Possessed Champion whipping the Possessed forwards being closely followed by the Terminators.Last game, I faced an Ultramarine player with Cassius and Khan. He outflanked with Khan and 10 bikes, and his Land Raider with Cassius and some Termies, thankfully the Land Raider turned up on his side of the board. Khan managed to kill all but one Possessed and my Chaos Lord, and he and his squad then got swamped by two units of Chaos Marines, and my Lord rolled a 6 for his Daemon weapon! If the game had ended on turn 5 it would have been a high win to me, but due to the game continuing until turn 7, it ended in a complete draw of 10-10.
So all in all, there was around 15-16 Grey Knight Players, 6-7 Guard Players, 4-5 Blood Angels, and various other armies, including at least two Lash Prince, obliterator spam Chaos lists. I went away from the first day disappointed and quite bored with the game, thankfully the people I played day two were much more fun and it felt more like a game rather than just me turning up and putting my models away.
The guy I played third game (where I gave the game away) had apparently gone and spoken to the judges about what had happened and nominated me for best sportsman, which I was amazed at as I was just there to have fun. So, I would like to that Gareth Massey for that, and am glad to say I won best sportsman and so didn't leave empty handed. I ended up third from last in the tournament with 21 points.
My trophy!!!I would also like to add that Pete, one of our newer players to the club (not the game) got nominated for best painted, but unfortunatly lost out to a Chaos Marine player that had done ALOT of brilliant freehand work, even on individual models aswell as the vehicles. I believe Angryman got a few pictures of this guys work, but still. Congratulations to Pete for getting into the top 4 of 52 armies!

Road to Warrington Pt:3
First up are my mass armour, there are two Vindicator's, three Rhino's and a Dreadnought all sat ready to cause pain. I have painted two of the Rhino's and both Vindicator's over the weekend, though they are still awaiting the Lightning Detailing, and a bit of weathering (I got some weathering powder from Forge World with the third Rhino's doors). The third Rhino isn't painted because I didn't get the doors until Sunday, but that will be high on my list of what's left to do!
Here is a close up of my burning skulls on one of my Vindicator's, I thought it would be a good "fear" causer to see your fellows thrown onto a blazing fire on the back of a big gun. It also gave me a reason to have a go at painting fire (which didn't work out too well). Instead of working up to the tips I worked down to the fire, but a quick wash of Baal Red blended the paints together and gave it a passable look.
My tin of 46 guys, not really a good transport system, but it works, and they are so crammed in they barely move! I have 18 painted Night Lords, with 12 men undercoated and ready. My main problem is that I don't get my remaining 10 Night Lord Heads and Shoulder Pads, until Friday, which means, that some men are currently only half built!!! I am planning on just painting them up and then painting the heads and shoulder pads separately and gluing them on last minute (on the day if need be)Wednesday, 13 July 2011
Badger's Log - Bretonnian Damsel
Very brief one off me today, I've been snowed under with work. I've had lots of things I could put up on the blog, just no time whatsoever to get it done!
So first up is my Bretonnian Damsels I painted up last weekend (or the weekend before... I've lost track of the days with work). There's 1 mounted and 1 on foot. Ideally, I could do with a 2nd mounted Damsel to keep up with the rest of the cavalry and also to add some oomph if I were to play Storm of Magic.
I painted them in a light blue scheme, with white trim and detailing, similar to my Bretonnian Lords. Once I'd finished them, I decided they needed a Black Wash just to tie the colours in and give a bit of shading. I'm kind of regretting that now, as it means I'll need to eventually black wash the rest of the army.
The one on foot, I'm pretty happy with. The horse I'm also quite impressed how the black wash turned out on a grey horse, however I put way too much wash on the mounted Damsel. But oh well... they only ever get out onto the table every so often, so they'll do.
Peace,
SB

Badger's Log - Baron Sathonyx (and friend!)
I didn't get chance to put a blog up yesterday, so I'll try and make sure to do one this morning whilst my computer goes through it's update process.
Last blog I did I showed off some more Incubi, at the same time I was painting those, I was trying to get my Dark Eldar collection completely painted (all I have left now are the Raider passengers). The only other things left were my Baron Sathonyx conversion and a lone Hellion, leftover from Beastmaster conversions.
First up, the basic Hellion. I painted them in the same way as Wyches and the beastmasters I'd done before. I really do like all the dynamic poses that you get from the Hellion models as well as the ball joint flying stands allowing you to pose them swooping, soaring or banking.
I'd like to add more Hellions to the army, especially with the Baron allowing them to become Troops, the problem comes in what to remove from the army to fit them in. Either the Haemonculi or the Duke. I'd like to eventually have a big unit of 15, I'd love to see them on the table flying around all over the show.
Lastly, we've got the Baron himself. He was cobbled together from random Hellion bits, some skull trophies along with a Wych knife and a cloak as best I could find. I've also tried to make his arms posed so that the skyboard can be angled down and get a bit closer to the pose from the Codex. It works for now, he's clear to who he is and I look forward to using him in the near future alongside a Hellion squad.
I only originally made him because I bought Hellions to turn into Beastmasters and had 2 spare for conversions.
That's it for now, I'll see if I remember over the weekend to put up pics of my Bretonnian Damsels and see what else I can get done hobbywise over the weekend.
Peace,

Badger's Log - More Incubi
Despite the fact I've not got chance to play 40K at the moment, I seem to be doing pretty well in painting things (lack of sleep really helps there!).
So first batch of stuff I'll show off is some more Incubi
Same thing as the last batch with these guys, the only difference being, I spent some more time on the details of the swords. I realised after painting the last batch that the sword runes glow green. It's something I should have bothered doing on the first batch really, as it's made the swords look better. The only other thing to do on the models now, is to re-dot the Eyes with Snot Green so they glow a bit more.
Next up is the Klaivex that I made. I originally cut his Klaive in half, attempting to make a Demi-Klaive, but it didn't really work out, so instead I used a Sybarite Power Sword from a warrior box, and the other hand was a sword from a Dark Elf Corsair. It does the job and makes him stand out from the rest of the unit. I also glued his back trophy racks on the wrong way, meaning instead of pointing out like the others, they point inwards.
I'd originally planned to use him as Drazhar, as part of an Incubi temple army list, but I'm not sure he looks hardcore enough to be some uber blade-master. Shall have to see what I can do.
That's it for today, took me long enough to get this written up... I'll post some more assorted bits through the rest of the week.
Peace,
SB

Badger's Log - Brotherhood Imagifier and Gaming Break
First up is the news that I'll probably not be posting as often on here over the next few weeks, and I also won't be playing at the club for a couple of weeks. Work schedule, deadlines and so on - so yeah, that's that.
However, one byproduct of it means that when I get home I don't want to do much else other than slob around... which is handy for getting some painting done.
Currently on my paint desk I've got another Incubi squad, a Klaivex / Drazhar conversion, Baron Sathonyx, a random Hellion and a (now completed) Brotherhood of the Forge Imagifier to go with a Retributor squad.
I think this guy took about half an hour to paint in total, but it rounds off a Heavy Bolter retributor squad I've had done for a bit, allowing me to re-roll the Faith test, which for a small squad such as Retributors, it's vital I feel.
Only problem is the new WD codex Sisters is probably going to ruin that plan! And since I probably won't be playing over the next few weeks, he may very well be a waste of time.
So that's that for now, I'll post up some picture of the Incubi if I get them done any time soon.
Peace,
SB

Badger's Log - Finecast Dark Eldar Incubi
Played another game with my Dark Eldar last night, against Angryman's Craftworld Eldar. I'll get onto that a bit more tomorrow, but first up I wanted to show off my Finecast Dark Eldar Incubi.
Now I know there's been a lot of moaning about price increases and such with Finecast, but personally I'm all for it. Metal models weigh a ton, require pinning and also require regular upkeep and a good spray of varnish. I'm more than willing to pay a few quid extra for my models to have them lighter, easier to transport and not require varnishing or pinning.
That being said, I've had problems with the boxes showing up with the wrong number of body sprues to match the Klaive sprues. So what I'd suggest is that if you want to buy any that are boxed, get them from the store and open the box there and then. Rather than dealing with GW customer services and waiting on the postal service...
Anyway, that being said. It took me a few hours to assemble the squad (lots of flash to trim) but not very long to paint them. An hour or 2 on Sunday left me with these 4.
I'm really pleased with how the blue armour's turned out. It's literally just a very controlled drybrush using Ice Blue. I also really like the helmets being white as a contrast, along with the effect the black wash has given on the Klaives.
The new Incubi are some of my absolute favourite models GW has done, I love their rules, fluff and the models - it was just the weighty metal stopping me from buying them. Hopefully I'll get a few more of them soon and make my army so that it's heavy on Incubi. Damn you Drazhar for not making them a Troop choice!
Comments and critiscisms? Anyone else like the Incubi models? Had any problems with Finecast?
Peace,

Badger's Log - Weekend at Badger's
Quick Monday morning post of what hobby stuff I got up to over the weekend...
Do you ever get that really annoying time where you lose a model from a unit? Somehow over the past few weeks of gaming, I've managed to lose a boy from a Trukk squad. Luckily, I had a few leftover AOBR boyz lying around to fill the gaps, but it's so frustrating not to know where it's gone to!

| The Lost Boyz... Well, just 1. |
Now, the next thing I spent most of the weekend messing around with, were my Finecast Incubi. I've never worked with resin or finecast before, so I vastly underestimated how long it took me to trim all the excess clean and get at the mould lines.
All in all, I think it's worth the extra work and a few quid extra, to have such nicely detailed models that are easy to transport and maintain as well. The only thing I wasn't keen on was some of the more fiddly, bendy bits... such as the Klaives and the trophy racks. Trimming the flash off them was like tightrope walking. I'm very heavy handed when it comes to cleaning models, so I had to take it down a notch in order to clean these up.
They're sprayed up and I just need to undercoat the missed areas, then I can get on with painting them, hopefully get them done for next week's game at the club.
You might also notice there's only 4 Incubi there, when in the box you get 5. Basically, each Incubi body, head and racks come on an individual frame, where as the 5 Klaives come on a single frame. To match the Klaives, in a normal box, you should get 2 Type A bodies, 2 Type B bodies and 1 Type C. Now I was given 3 of Type A or B, so I couldn't fit the Klaive onto the body properly.
Suffice to say, I've rang GW and got a replacement on the way in the post, so that was good of them. Originally I was going to run them as a 4 anyway, with an Archon in a Venom, so I can at least make a start on that for the moment.
I also spent most of Saturday packing my armies up into Chinese tubs. I've got some kind of Takeaway storage OCD, but it means I can keep all my similar squads together and store them a bit nicer.
It also means I can store things a bit neater at home and see where each unit is at the time, rather than trawling through old Battleforce boxes of fileboxes to find where my Wych squad is.
After that, I just spent some time trying to work out some points for this Apocalypse demo game next Saturday. At the moment, I'm on 7200pts of Orks, without my unpainted Squiggoth and without reinforcements from other players. Next thing after that is to work out the points of my Imperial Guard.
That's all for now, I've got a mission pack for our demo game to upload onto here for people to read at some point, so that should hopefully be up tomorrow!
Peace,
SB
