Hi all,
Angryman here with a question. Other than Gork an Mork do Orks believe in anything?
Is there an Ork heaven or hell?
This could be construed in a number of different ways. We all know that the warp gods absorb the souls of the dead but do Gork and Mork absorb these same souls? Are they even a part of the warp? Do Orks have a soul?
We know that Orks have collective psychic abilities so this must attract the interest of warp spawned beasts. Are Gork and Mork protecting the Orks psychic presence from these predators?
Could it be something a bit more spiritual? Orks reproduce by spreading spores when they die, these then grow into more Orks and so the cycle continues. Could this be a form of reincarnation, if so then are the Orks the Buddhists of the 40K universe?
It could be simpler than that, it could be that Gork and Mork are incarnations of Khorne. Orks love to fight, Khorne is the god of War, what better way to get souls than to have an entire species dedicated to war that believes you are their god.
So what do you think, do Orks believe in a greater power and do they have a soul? if so what happens to them when they die?
All comments welcome.
"We know that Orks have collective psychic abilities so this must attract the interest of warp spawned beasts. Are Gork and Mork protecting the Orks psychic presence from these predators?"
ReplyDeleteI don't know the in's and out's of the fluff, but I think the Ork psychic nature comes more from their own latent energy, rather than drawn from the Warp itself. So that means they're quite safe from Warp Beasts popping out and snapping at them.
Personally, I believe Gork and Mork are reflected versions of the Chaos Gods. One is Khorne (Fighting, Battle, War), the other is Tzeentch (Cunning and Crafty).
I like the idea of the Orks following the reincarnation guidelines of Hinduism (I think) and Buddhism.
Onto the question of do they have souls though? I believe Yes for 2 reasons. Firstly, I'm sure the Necrons have harvested them at some point... Secondly, I think since they have character, personality and their own free will, they do have a soul. Albeit a highly tainted one.
Then again, Orks are probably one of the least taintable races in excistence. They don't relish in torture, no adultery and no sins aside from Murder and Theft.
Someone will probably come and drop a Fluff Bomb on me here, but that's my idea.
Who knows? Unless GW comes out with "Da Bible For Da Orkz"
I don't think any good can come of thinking too hard about how orks work, physically, mentally, or spiritually. I bleive it's too easy to overthink such a wonderful simple race. That said, I think you pose a great question that would take a blog to frame a proper response. So for now I'll just take the Orky road and say, WAAAAAGGGGHHH!
ReplyDeleteIf you can get hold of the older 1st or 2nd edition ork books like Ere We go they might have some insight?
